Manuela Salgueiro Lourenço is a Brazilian architect, designer, photographer, and visual researcher born in São Paulo and based in Brooklyn, New York.

Her background in Architecture and Urbanism has informed her photographic practice. As a photographer and visual researcher, she believes Photography has the potential to communicate places’ genius loci. She is interested in calling attention to place identity and the connection between people and places (land, motherland, lived, and domestic spaces).

She was the recipient of a research fellowship from Escola da Cidade Architecture Association, on which she developed the project The Construction of the City's Image Through Photographic Narratives. Her architecture school final project ‘The Espigão and its Windows: Possibilities in the Void’, a walking exploration of São Paulo’s remnant spaces with non-obstructed views of the horizon line was selected to be part of São Paulo’s Biennale permanent archive and was on display at Mário de Andrade Library, during the 2017 São Paulo Architecture Biennale.

In 2021, she received a fellowship to study Creative Practices in Photography at the International Center of Photography (ICP), in New York. She has exhibited work in group shows in New York and San Francisco. Her work has also been featured in publications such as PhotoVogue, PH Museum, Fotodemic, Musée Magazine, and Blind Magazine.
