Território Guarani, São Paulo, Brasil
Ana Tranchesi
My friend Ana invited me to photograph her work. For two days, I registered the process of installing a road sign in the division between municipalities, which says Guarani Territory above and below. The idea was to promote a reflection on the occupation and colonization of the territory in the largest city in Brazil, São Paulo, which restricted the native indigenous population to natural reserves that are under increasing political pressure.
Instead of saying São Paulo above and Guarani Territory below, the sign says Guarani Territory twice, suggesting that everything in that space is originally indigenous land. The Tekoa Itakupe Indigenous Reserve has been the target of real estate speculation for the past two years and in June 2020 part of its land caught fire, in yet another case of State neglection.
Ana is a visual artist, architect and researcher, who lives between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Her search revolves around. In parallel to a Master's degree in Contemporary Arts, she continues collaborating with Paulo Tavares and working as a scenographer with the artists Laura Vinci and Flora Belotti, for the Mundana Theater Company.
In her work she seeks to investigate and deepen the dimension of the word and its poetic-visual unfoldings, seeking to problematize territorial and subjective limitations in the face of the Latin American spatial and political context.

Monte Alegre de Minas, Minas Gerais, Brasil
Starting from the meaning of the word memory - 1. the ability to remember information, experiences and people; - the idea of these series of images is to try to recapitulate and in a parallel movement, to recreate my childhood memories, so linked to this place which appears in the photographs - my grandfather's farm. The absence of a precise object in the pictures relates to the fact that our memories are not always clear, being most of the times blurred and abstract. They get lost and are reconstructed in a continuous movement.

Workshop
2013
São Paulo, São Paulo, Brasil
In 2013, during the 10th Architectural Bienal of São Paulo, I participated of a two days 50km walk around São Paulo, organized by the Arquipélagos Urbanos Collective, an iniciative by Renato Hofer and Tais Ribeiro. We crossed the city from West to East, starting from the Pico do Jaraguá (Jaraguá Peak), in the Western border of the city, and walking in the direction of the Patriarca Neighbourhood, in the Eeastern side of São Paulo. We spent the night in the central area, where we slept in the mezzanine of IAB's (Institute of Brazilian Architects) headquarters.
The experience of walking and exploring the territory through my own body deeply affected me and has defined a range of interests that I persue until nowadays. Along the track and its different stops, we were invited to register and feel the path however we wanted to. I opted to register my experience though Photography, as it is the language that I master. Afterwards, I realized that I had created many double exposure images, which after gave me the impression that, at the moment, in a single click, I wanted to be able to represent the various angles as seen by a pedestrian or all that I was able to visualize from a single point, thus, trying to build a global view of the place that surrounded me so that, afterwards, I could approprite it entirely.
I named this essay 'Duplicated City'.
